My senior capstone is a culmination of knowledge, experience and inspiration that I have acquired throughout five years of education and internships. Originally inspired by deep-sea dwellers with translucent exoskeletons, my thesis reminds audiences that the human body is just as vulnerable as these creatures, though we may not always recognize it. Every look is comprised of a casual activewear outfit made of a knit blend, with seamline inspiration that yields directly from human muscle and bone structures. These are each accompanied by a silk organza outer structure that serves as an exaggeration of an abstract human exoskeleton. The vibrantly colored patterns on the inner garments are hand painted and one-of-a-kind, and are meant to mimic original Rorschach tests. This application highlights the seamlines on the inner activewear garments. The print placement is similar in nature to the deep-sea dwellers, whose only color is located on their inner organs beneath a gossamer exterior.
Below are the deep sea-dwellers that first sparked my thesis, as well as human muscle and bone structures, organza and mesh garments and original Rorschach Test ink blots.
Below are some pages from my process books as well as muslin fittings throughout the process.
